What is Slow Balboa?
A beautiful slow dance that you should learn! There’s an entire page of this event website that describes the dance.
Will the music at the dances only be slow music?
No! We know that many of the dancers attending will know other forms of swing dance, and many dancers may be learning Slow Balboa for the first time. So, we intend to play a mix of tempos of music so that people familiar with Lindy Hop, Balboa, and Shag dancing will be able to dance those styles as well. That being said, we will have more slow dance music than most events so dancers can focus on doing more Slow Balboa. We aim to ensure that at least 50 percent of music by live bands and DJs is Slow Balboa appropriate.
Is there a masters level class?
There is a masters level for more advanced dancers with multiple years of experience with Slow Balboa, and it is open to people who are either invited or audition via submitting a video. To submit an audition, use this link.

What is your COVID-19 policy?
Stardust Slow Balboa Weekend does not require masks or vaccines to attend. We require that attendees be respectful of other attendees’ personal decisions about COVID-19 safety. If you become sick with COVID-19 or another illness up to seven days prior to the event, we recommend that you choose to not attend, and you can contact [email protected] to defer or cancel your registration.
Do you offer scholarships or opportunities to reduce the cost of attendance?
Stardust Slow Balboa Weekend does not offer scholarships, but it does offers opportunities for volunteers to earn a reimbursement for the full weekend pass, half of the full weekend pass, or the dance pass cost. You can sign up to volunteer with this link.
What if I can’t attend the event? Can I do a pass transfer or refund?
If you register for Stardust Slow Balboa Weekend, but cannot attend then we have the following options:
- You may transfer your registration for this current year’s event to someone else at no cost. The last day to transfer your pass is November 1st, 2025. We can defer the cost of this year’s pass towards Stardust Slow Balboa Weekend 2026.
- If you become sick with COVID-19 or another illness up to seven days prior to the event and choose to not attend, contact [email protected] to defer or cancel your registration.
Can I buy tickets to individual classes or one day of classes only?
Classes are only available with a full weekend pass because the class material is cumulative over the weekend. We do not sell a la carte tickets for classes. We will be selling a la carte tickets to individual evening dances.
Are there level checks for the classes?
Stardust Slow Balboa encourages all participants to read the level descriptions available at this link to the classes page carefully before choosing a level. Attending class with students who are a similar place in their experience with a dance is a good way to make sure that everyone gets the most out of classes.
There are no level checks with the beginner and intermediate levels.
For the advanced level, the first class of the day will be a level check. Stardust Slow Balboa may require some attendees to move to the intermediate level depending on the level check.
For the masters level, students interesting in attending must either be invited to come to the class or audition for the class using the page available at this link.
